Parents choose a coaching institute for results, and they judge it, week to week, by tests. A centre that holds a full mock every Sunday and has marks on parents’ phones by Sunday night looks serious. A centre that returns marks on Thursday, with two totalling errors, looks like what it is: overloaded.

The obstacle has never been setting tests. It is checking them. This guide shows how a coaching centre of any size can run a weekly NEET, JEE or SSC-style OMR test series on teachers’ phones — with no OMR machine, no special sheets, and no limit on how many students you scan.

Why the weekly test is your best marketing

  • It builds the exam habit. Filling bubbles under time pressure and managing negative marking are skills NEET, JEE and SSC test directly. They only improve with repetition on real OMR sheets.
  • It catches weak chapters early. A weekly question-by-question breakdown tells faculty what to revise while there is still time to revise it.
  • It is what parents see. Fast, accurate, regular marks are the most visible evidence that the fees are working.

What marking really costs a coaching centre

Put the three ways of marking side by side for a centre with 300 students testing weekly:

At four seconds a sheet, 300 sheets is twenty minutes of scanning — and with three teachers scanning their own batches, it is done before the students have left the building. Scanning is free and unlimited on every phone, so adding a batch never adds a bill.

Setting up a batch once

01

Make a class for each batch

Import the student list from Excel or CSV. Every test scanned for that batch files itself under it, so each student builds a year-long record without anyone typing.

02

Pick the exam pattern

Start from the NEET, JEE, SSC CGL, Railways or state PSC pattern, adjust the number of questions, and the sections, marks and negative marking come set up.

03

Print sheets with names on them

ScanScore can print each student’s name and roll number on their own sheet, with your institute’s name at the top. No more papers with a roll number filled in wrong.

Test day

  • Up to 150 questions on one A4 sheet, with five options (A–E) when the paper needs them.
  • Set A to D papers in the Android app, with questions and options shuffled, so neighbours are not reading the same page. See how multi-set papers work.
  • Attendance: mark who was absent, and absentees stay out of the class average and the ranking instead of dragging both down.
  • No paper yet? The MCQ generator writes a sectioned mock to the pattern, with the key, which you check and edit before printing.

Marking that matches the real exam

Students learn negative marking by watching it cost them. ScanScore applies the penalty exactly — a quarter, a third, or a fixed number of marks — and keeps the decimals, so a score of 63.25 is shown as 63.25 and two students a quarter-mark apart are ranked correctly. A question you have not keyed yet is never counted wrong, and if you change the marking rule after scanning, ScanScore offers to re-mark every saved sheet. The negative marking guide has worked examples for each exam.

Results, ranks and parents

  • On the phone, free: marks, percentage and grade per student, question-by-question review, the hardest questions, the score spread, students whose marks are falling, and progress reports as PDF or CSV.
  • To parents, free: send a result on WhatsApp in two taps.
  • On Pro: every result also lands in a web dashboard, with photos of the scanned sheets — useful the day a parent disputes a mark — and parents can follow their own child’s tests and averages online.
  • Topic-wise analysis (Pro): tag sections by chapter once, and every test shows which chapters the batch is weak in.

Many teachers, one institute

Every teacher can scan on their own phone for free from day one. When you want all of it in one place, the Organisation plan gives each teacher a seat at ₹899 a year — the owner takes the first seat, so two people is ₹1,798 a year. Teachers join with your code, you see every batch’s results in one dashboard, AI credits are pooled with a per-teacher spending view, and parent-facing pages carry your logo and colours. Teachers can share an exam with each other by code, so one person builds the Sunday mock and everyone else gets their own copy.

Start small: run next Sunday’s test for one batch on one phone, free. If the marks reach parents that evening and the faculty get their Sunday back, roll it out to the rest. You do not need to decide anything about plans first.
