ScanScore was designed with Indian exams in mind — long papers, negative marking, five options, hundreds of students per room. That turns out to be a good stress test for a classroom anywhere. If a scanner copes with a 200-question competitive paper, a 20-question weekly quiz in Nairobi, Karachi or Toronto is easy.

This guide answers the practical questions a teacher outside India asks before trying it: does it work where I am, what does it cost in my currency, and what about paper size and language?

Does it work in my country?

Scanning runs on the phone, with no server involved, so there is no region to be “in”. The camera, the printed markers and the maths are the same everywhere. What you need is:

  • an Android phone on Android 7.0 or newer with a working rear camera;
  • any printer and ordinary paper;
  • an internet connection only to download the app the first time.

That also means it works in places where connectivity is unreliable, which is exactly where a cloud-based scanner fails first. See how offline scanning works.

Paper size: A4 and printers set to Letter

ScanScore sheets are designed for A4. Most of the world uses A4 already. In countries where printers default to US Letter, choose “fit to page” or “scale to fit” in the print dialog rather than letting the printer crop the edge, and make sure the black frame around the sheet is fully visible on the paper.

Print one test sheet first. Fill it in with a pen and scan it before you print thirty. A single trial sheet is the cheapest way to confirm your printer settings are right.

Languages

An OMR sheet is bubbles and numbers, so a sheet reads the same in any language. The place language matters is the question paper itself. ScanScore’s paper writer can write questions in more than 50 languages, including Spanish and Arabic, and covers more than 180 boards and curricula. You can also skip it entirely and write your own paper in whichever tool you like — the OMR sheet is separate.

Pricing in your own currency

Marking is free and unlimited, whatever country you are in. Paid features — backup, the web dashboard, parent access, online tests and AI — are a single payment for one year, and the price is shown and charged in your own currency, including dollars, euros, pounds, dirhams and Singapore dollars. Nothing renews automatically; you choose whether to pay again when the year ends.

Who uses it outside the big exam boards

Weekly quizzes

Ten to thirty questions, marked in minutes, with a class list and a rank.

Mock exams

Long papers with negative marking, in the style of SAT, entrance or board exams.

Tutors and small centres

One phone, one printer and no budget for a scanning machine.

Before you start

  • The app’s printed sheet is its own format — you do not use existing pre-printed forms.
  • Students fill a roll number grid, so decide a numbering scheme for each class first.
  • Marking rules (negative marking, marks per question) are set per exam, so you can match your local grading scheme.
