These are the questions teachers ask most before they try a free phone OMR scanner. Each answer is short on purpose; follow the links for the full story.
Cost and limits
Is it really free?
Yes. Making exams, printing sheets, scanning, marking, analytics on the phone, PDF results, CSV export and WhatsApp sharing are free, with no scan limit. You only pay for things that leave the phone or run on our servers: backup, the web dashboard, parent access, online tests and AI question papers.
Why is there no limit?
Because the reading happens on your phone. See why scanning can be unlimited.
Phone and paper
What phone do I need?
Any Android phone on Android 7.0 or newer with a working rear camera. Details in OMR scanning on a budget Android phone.
Does it work on iPhone?
Scanning is Android only. The web dashboard, paper writer and online tests work in any browser, including on iPhone and iPad.
Do I need special paper?
No. Print the sheet on plain A4 with any printer in black ink. See printing tips.
Accuracy
How accurate is it?
The printed frame and corner marks let the app straighten the picture and locate each bubble, and it tells you when something is unclear instead of guessing. You can review any paper and fix a mark. See phone OMR scanning accuracy.
What if a student marks two answers?
The app flags it so you decide, rather than silently picking one.
Exam features
How many questions can a sheet hold?
Up to 200, on one side of one A4 sheet, with four or five options.
Does it do negative marking?
Yes, including fractional values and different marks per question. See negative marking explained.
Can I run several question paper sets?
Yes. See multi-set question papers.
Privacy
Where do student marks go?
They stay on your phone unless you choose to turn on backup. Marking itself uploads nothing. See offline scanning and privacy.
Where do I start?
Follow the step-by-step guide and make a five-question test first. It takes about ten minutes.
