Calculate your mock-test score
Enter answer counts and non-negative deduction amounts. All calculations happen in your browser. Changing a marking rule switches the preset to Custom.
The negative marking formula
Score = correct × positive marks − wrong × wrong penalty − unanswered × unanswered penalty
Unanswered questions are the total minus correct and wrong answers. A fractional penalty multiplies the positive marks, so a one-quarter penalty on a 4-mark question deducts 1 mark.
Worked example: 100 questions
With +4 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong answer and 0 for a blank, 70 correct, 20 wrong and 10 unanswered gives 280 − 20 = 260 out of 400. The score percentage is 65%; attempted-answer accuracy is 70 ÷ 90, about 77.78%.

Use the same settings when grading a class
A calculator checks one set of counts. In ScanScore, configure positive marks and deductions in your exam, then scan the answer sheets against the key. Read the negative marking setup guide or download practice OMR sheets.
This tool uses uniform weights and ordinary correct/wrong/blank scoring. It displays negative scores, retains fractions until display rounding, and does not predict ranks or percentiles.
Common questions
Does the calculator predict rank or percentile?
It calculates raw mock-test marks only. Official ranks and percentiles depend on examination-specific rules and other candidates' results.
Can the score be negative?
Yes. If deductions exceed earned marks, the calculator keeps the negative score. It does not silently replace it with zero.
How do I use a one-third penalty?
Choose Fraction of positive marks and select one-third. The fraction is retained during calculation; rounding is applied only when showing the result.
What about bonus questions or different section weights?
This tool uses a uniform marking scheme. Resolve corrected or bonus questions using the final key. For different section weights, calculate each section separately and add the raw scores.
