Use the spreadsheet

  1. Read the Instructions tab, then open Results. The Example tab contains fictional demonstration data.
  2. Enter a student reference, name, earned score and maximum score. Keep formula columns intact.
  3. Set the pass threshold on Summary. The example threshold is a classroom setting, not an exam eligibility rule.
  4. Review percentages, ranks, average, median and pass rate. Blank or invalid rows are excluded.

Ranking and score percentages

The workbook ranks score percentages highest first. Ties use competition ranking: 1, 2, 2, 4. Keep maximum scores consistent for a common test; comparing percentages across different papers does not establish equivalent difficulty.

Negative earned marks are allowed. A maximum score must be positive and earned marks must not exceed it. Use ScanScore exports as a source for your records and check totals before sharing results. This workbook does not connect to or import into your account.

Go beyond the class average

Check individual questions with the question difficulty calculator, then read the subject-wise analysis guide. ScanScore’s class results can support the next review and teaching plan.

Common questions

How are equal scores ranked?

The workbook uses competition ranking on score percentage. Equal percentages receive the same rank, and the following rank skips positions, for example 1, 2, 2, 4. It is a classroom convention, not an official exam tie-break policy.

Does the CSV contain formulas?

The CSV is a simple results table. Download the XLSX workbook for formulas, class statistics, validation and a worked example.

Does the workbook upload student data?

No. It is a local spreadsheet without macros or external data connections. Keep completed copies private.
