Is ScanScore really a free OMR scanner?

Making exams, printing OMR sheets, scanning, marking, analytics on the phone, PDF result sheets, CSV export and WhatsApp sharing are free forever, with no limit on how many sheets you scan. You only pay for the things that leave the phone or run on our servers — backup, the browser view, parent access, online tests, and the AI that writes question papers.

Is there any limit on how many sheets I can scan?

No. Scanning is 100% unlimited across Free, Pro, and Organisation plans. There is no daily limit, no monthly limit, and no per-sheet charges. Whether you scan 10 sheets or 10,000 sheets, the price is the same because high-speed scanning runs directly on-device and syncs seamlessly to the cloud in the background.

How many questions can one OMR sheet hold?

Up to 200 questions on a single A4 page. You can print 4 options (A to D) or 5 options (A to E) for every question. Sheets that hold more questions use a tighter layout, and the 200-question sheet a compact header, so the bubbles stay big enough to mark and read properly. ScanScore picks the sheet that fits the number of questions you enter.

Do I need an OMR machine or special sheets?

No. ScanScore makes the answer sheet for you as a PDF, and it prints on plain A4 paper on any ordinary printer in black ink. There is no OMR machine to buy, no scanner to buy and no special stationery to order.

How accurate is scanning with a phone?

The sheets carry a printed black frame, four corner marks, edge marks and two coded tags. The app uses those to find the paper, straighten a photo taken at an angle and know exactly where every bubble should be. It also checks the picture quality and tells you when a bubble is unclear instead of guessing. You can look through any paper and fix a mark by hand before saving.

Does it work without internet?

Yes, completely. Scanning, marking, reviewing and exporting all happen on the phone. You only need a connection to download the app, or if you choose to turn on backup and the browser view.

How long does one sheet take?

About four seconds, including taking the picture, straightening it, reading the bubbles and working out the score. In batch mode the camera stays ready between sheets, so a class of forty is done in a few minutes.

Does it read the roll number by itself?

Yes. Students fill in their roll number in the bubble grid at the top of the sheet, and the app reads it along with the answers. You do not type anything.

What do I get on the web?

Once backup is on, every scan also appears in a web page you can open on any computer: score spread across all your exams, class averages, per-exam and per-question breakdowns, the photos of the scanned sheets, and CSV export. Schools get the same view across every teacher, and parents get a read-only view of their own child.

Can ScanScore write the question paper for me?

Yes, on the phone and in the browser. You choose your board, class, subject and chapters, how many questions you want and how hard they should be, and it writes them with an answer key. You can write in more than 50 languages, start from ready-made patterns such as CBSE, NEET, JEE, SSC and SAT, and give each section its own marks and negative marking. Edit any question, then turn the paper into an exam and print the sheet. You can also export it to Word with the equations intact, or to PDF. Every new account starts with 10 credits, which is enough to try it.

What is a multi-set paper?

The same paper printed as up to four sets, A to D, with the questions and the options shuffled differently in each, so students sitting side by side are not reading the same page. Each set has its own printed sheet and its own answer key, plus a master key that shows where every question went. The shuffle is remembered, so a reprint matches the copies you already handed out. Each set is saved as its own exam and marked against its own key. Multi-set is in the Android app.

Can it read an answer key from a photo?

Yes. Photograph a printed key sheet, a page from a textbook or handwritten notes — up to six pages at a time — and ScanScore reads it into the exam whatever the layout. The answers land in the key grid for you to check and correct before you save, and it tells you how many it found. It works in the app and on the exam page in the browser. It needs a Pro plan and uses credits.

What are credits, and what do they cost?

Credits pay for the parts that run on AI on our servers: writing a question paper, reading an answer key from a photo and importing a class list from a photo. Scanning and marking never use them. A paper costs from 1 credit, depending on how many questions it has, a key costs 2 credits a page, and a class list costs 2 credits a photo. Every new account starts with 10 credits and Pro adds 100 every month. You can buy more any time, and bought credits never expire. Pack prices are in the pricing section above.

How do organisation seats work?

One seat per person, ₹899 each per year, and you are one of the seats — so two people is ₹1,798 a year. Staff join with your code and you give them a seat. Everyone renews on the same day, so a teacher hired mid-year only costs you the months that are left. Seats can be paused or taken back as staff change, and your logo and colours on parent-facing pages are included.

Does the Pro plan renew automatically?

No. Pro is one payment for one year, and nothing is ever charged again unless you choose to pay. The date your year ends is at the top of your subscription page and in the app, so you can renew when you are ready. Pay again before it ends and the new year is added on to the end of the one you have, so no paid time is lost. Organisation seats work the same way.

Can I pay from outside India?

Yes. Prices are shown and charged in your own currency — dollars, euros, pounds, dirhams, Singapore dollars and several more — worked out from where you are, so the figure you read is the figure your bank shows. Every plan is a single one-year payment, in every currency.

Can parents and students see the marks?

Yes, on any paid plan. The teacher shares a student code. The parent or student enters it once and then sees that student’s scanned exams and online tests, with averages over time. One login can follow more than one child.

Can students take the test online instead of on paper?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can set the same MCQ test in the browser. Each student gets a link that works once, the clock runs on our server, and the browser is locked down — full screen, with copy, paste and tab switching blocked. It marks itself, and the results sit beside your scanned marks.

Is my data safe?

Scanning and marking happen on your phone and nothing is uploaded unless you turn on backup yourself. When backup is on, your exams and results are visible only to you, your school admin, and any family you share a student code with.

Which phones does it run on?

Accepted Answer

Any Android phone or tablet on Android 7.0 or newer with a working rear camera. A normal 8 to 12 megapixel camera is far more than bubble reading needs, so budget phones are fine. The web part runs in any modern browser, including on Windows, Mac, iPad and Chromebook.
