Scanning works without a class: results are listed by roll number. But a rank list full of numbers is hard to read. Add a class with names and roll numbers and every scan is filed against a real student, with a history across tests. The quickest way to build that class is to import the list you already have.
Prepare the file
- A CSV or Excel file with name and roll number columns.
- One student per row, with a header row on top.
- Roll numbers should match what students will bubble on the sheet — see roll numbers on an OMR sheet.
Import it
- In ScanScore, open or create the class.
- Tap Import and choose the CSV or Excel file — or paste the list in.
- Check the preview, fix any wrong row and confirm.
On a Pro plan you can also photograph a printed register and let AI read it; that uses credits, while a CSV or Excel import does not.
Link the class to an exam
Edit the exam and pick the class. If you already scanned sheets, ScanScore offers to re-mark them, and the rank list then shows names. No rescanning is needed. See class and organisation management.
Common problems
- Duplicate roll numbers. Each student needs a unique number in a class.
- Different roll lengths. Keep one length across a class so the bubble grid fits.
- Names with extra spaces are easy to tidy in a spreadsheet before import.
What you get
Names on results, a history per student, and cleaner exports — see rank lists, exporting results and weekly tracking for tutors.
